I tried my hands at couponing. And yes I would save a little money, on products I did not care to buy in the first place. The more I learn about processed foods and man made beauty and cleaning products, the more I do not even want to own them. I have this strange anxiety when I go to the grocery store. I don’t see the items as food, not even junk food; they are just things on a shelf. I know what products I think I can trust and those are the ones I buy.

So I would by the Sunday paper just to work half of the crossword puzzle and spend about an hour clipping and organizing coupons. Then I would run to the store to save a total of like $2.00. I didn’t come out of the store overwhelmingly happy or satisfied about my savings and I had “stuff” I didn’t really care to have.
I am a simpleton, I don’t have to own the latest and greatest. I am satisfied with last years model. I only buy what I need and know my family will use. I noticed the less “stuff” I buy, the cleaner (less cluttered) my house house is. I still have bottles of product that I don’t even care to use.
I no longer buy pre packaged foods, not even like Cascadian Farms snack bars. I now try to make as much as possible from scratch. Now I make 2 or 3 batches of waffles at time, freeze them and toast when we’re ready to eat them. I make huge batch of marinara sauce and can it. I make my own pizza crust and sauce from scratch. I am working toward a chemical free home and have no desire to buy the popular care items and toiletries. I make my own facial scrub and use oils for lotion. I don’t buy OTC medicines because I seek natural remedies for common ailments. I make all of my own cleaning products from simple, natural ingredients (I heart vinegar).
So you see, I don’t need those coupons to save money because I save a ton by not buying those products in the first place. I will still occasionally print a coupon for good buy on something that I intend to use, but I am not going out of my way to buy a newspaper just for the coupons anymore, it’s not worth it for my family. Couponing was a waste of time for me.
